Observation Journal

Shared field notes from recent club nights, written to help beginners and returning members quickly see what was visible, what changed, and what to look for next.

Jupiter Transit Window at South Field

Observed focus: Jupiter and a brief Callisto shadow transit

By 21:10, the cloud band detail sharpened enough for newer members to compare equatorial belts directly across two telescopes. The shadow event was short but distinct, and we logged timing differences to discuss eyepiece magnification choices at the next meetup.

2026-10-27 · Thin haze, stable horizon

Pleiades Check-In Before Moonrise

Observed focus: Pleiades cluster shape and visibility under light haze

Members compared naked-eye impressions with binocular views, noting how quickly peripheral stars softened as haze thickened. The group agreed this was a useful beginner session for learning realistic expectations under imperfect skies.

Andromeda Spotting with Finder Alignment

Observed focus: Andromeda Galaxy location using mirrored finder paths

We practiced repeating the same finder-star route so first-time attendees could relocate Andromeda independently. Even when contrast dropped later in the session, members who used the route sequence found the target more consistently.
